Light Poetry Journal's Website Design was an update to a webpage for a publication that has been around over 15 years. I designed the site working with the publisher's input at every stage. They were in need of a different look, and a dark gray background is what the direction was for the project. One of the most challenging parts was the animated logo for the main page, which was done in Flash format.

  • For a Chicago-based poetry publication whose clientele is varied, with conservative tendencies of intended market target
  • The animated logo was initially executed in progressive lensflare layers in Adobe Photoshop, then imported into Adobe After Effects as a composition. From there, it was scaled from NTSC resolution ("TV" broadcast size,) to 181 by 170 pixels. From there, it was masked using an animated point-by-point reveal mask, and exported as a Flash video.
  • Besides redesign, I also perform quarterly updates to the web page, and generation of a new printable sample PDF is added to the site for visitors' download

Charles Henzlers' website
Artist's Website Design presents its own challenges in working with someone who already has a sense of design. The objective is to match what you perceive as their style and work with it. I designed the site seeking the artist's approval at every stage.
  • For a Chicago Artist whose experiences range from commissions, to theatrical backdrop design, to illustrations for magazines and periodicals, I was approached to develop a website that would reflect the dark atmospheric quality of Charles' work
The site was well received by the client as well as his friends and associates.

PHP-based Forum Installation and Administration Having been involved with a situation where the forums were hacked and went down in 2006 as a newly minted Admin, I developed an interest in what I saw as a useful tool in web forums.
  • • Administration of phpBB and SMF web forums
    • Implementation of phpBB and SMF web forums
  • • Establishment of defined user groups, and schedules of access for each
  • • Spam busting and User Administration
  • • Enhancements and updates to interface, forums

Old job

Church Website Design This client was a remote project. I am too far away to just pop into their locale for coffee and discuss the objectives of what they needed, but it was a success just from trading e-mails anyway. Trading e-mails may have added time onto the project, but it beat the economy of actually being there while netting a good result.

From a design perspective there were a few elements that differed from previous projects: one was incorporating a animated gif (Open Hearts...) that delivered a message while not distracting from the over all feel. The other element that seemed to fit well into this project was the use of visible tables. While ordinarily, I prefer to use the structure tables offer, while keeping their borders invisible (thus creating the illusion of careful organization,) this project seemed to lend itself to a 'compartmentalized' look. Similarly to the Triptychs of Hieronymus Bosch and others who created devotional works, it suited to have a top panel with the organization's name, flanked by graphic elements on each side.

The elements provided by the client were enough to enable me to see how they would fit together. The Cross and Flame logo were provided by the client, as well as the church drawing, and a newsletter that really helped fill out the content and give this design the focus that they were looking for.

LML Medical transcription Svc.

LML Consulting

LML Avon

Medical Transcriptionists and other Website Design For small one-person business.

Someone was once in need for a Medical Transcription site as well as two other unrelated, but available services. I spent about a week trading e-mails with them about what specific elements they needed on the site, and set about the actual work on one Saturday.

The original request was for a simple site that conveyed the desired message to established and prospective clients alike. The challenge for this project was to establish a brand identity that was unique for each of the three services offered by this client. This page has the focus on Medical Transcription Services. The trick was to weave any other relevance from the other two services into each of the three different pages. Throwing a banner ad about PC Repair and Consulting services seemed simple enough, but what relevance could the cosmetics angle have? After tossing around some ideas I decided to keep the sites separate and distinct (less the banner ad cross-references on the medical transcription & PC services).

I saw where the domain were no longer active recently.

Software QA presentation

Self-serving Power Point Presentation for This is a marketing project for my website. It tells you some of what I can do, and of course borrows heavily on imagery from my site. A number of other presentations cannot be posted here due to copyrighted materials by others, but I can send you those samples if you request them.

Clicking on the image will enable you to view the original presentation provided you are using a Windows PC with Internet Explorer 5 or greater, with Powerpoint installed on your machine (having Power Point 2000 or greater will enable you to see included animated gifs- earlier then 2000 will only see static images!) Having DSL or cable helps also. To view the entire show, simply wait for the screen to advance. Presentation is set up in 'kiosk' mode and will loop until you close the window. Close window once finished.

Inclusion of Powerpoint work has become necessary from potential clients wanting samples. Now that it is on line, there is no need to send bulky e-mails. Enjoy!

QA Process flow

Directory Structure Change Presentation This was a project working with consultants to bring everyone on board for a new directory standardization initiative. The logo, background and layout are all my designs, though I had heavy collaboration on the content and writing.

Clicking on the image will enable you to view the original presentation provided you are using a Windows PC with Internet Explorer 5 or greater, with Powerpoint installed on your machine (inclusion of the player module would make the download even more heavy!) Having DSL or cable helps also. To advance show, either click mouse or page down. Close window once finished. information therein.
